Mystery…maps…treasure…but, honestly, for me, it’s the mystery. I’m talking about pirates. There are SO many mysteries involving pirates: Where did they hide their treasure? Was there a secret pirate kingdom called Libertalia? Were there pirate curses?

All of this, and more, is what prompted me to research and write The Devil’s Treasure. I take large, pirate-style, liberties with the legends of Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Paulsgrave Williams….actually, the entire pirate world from Nassau to Maine falls within my pirate tale, and I twist the story betwixt and between fictional journal entries and letters partnered with actual newspaper stories and historical documents.

There is also friendship, betrayal, tragedy, and victory…all pirate-style, of course. This includes, but is not limited to, drunken pirate talk, lazy days on the beaches of Nassau Island, and fierce battles at sea.

At the heart of the story is the relationship and estrangement between Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, and Samuel Wragg. As young men, they stumble into the mystery of a long lost treasure, and as Samuel relentlessly pursues the clues, Edward goes on to become a pirate legend.

…in my late proceedings in the Indies I have lodged goods and Treasure to the value of one hundred thousand pounds…” 1701, Captain William Kidd
