This is the second of a series inspired by The World Dragon Oracle, created by yours truly and featuring dragon artwork from the amazing Anne Stokes. If you missed the first one, go here: Why Create an Oracle?

Jormungandr
Jormungandr is a Midgard sea serpent, but he is not confined to the element of water. He is the child of the Norse God, Loki, and the giant, Angrboða. Jormungandr grew to be so large that Odin, All-Father and Chief Norse God, feared him. Odin threw the dragon into the ocean, and there he continued to grow until he filled the sea.
As he outgrew the sea, Jormungandr emerged from the waters and encircled the world. He then took his tail into his mouth and became the beginning, the end, and the in-between. In a word, Jormungandr became infinity.

Norse lore reveals that Jormungandr will unleash Ragnarok, the “end” of the world, when he releases his tail from his mouth. The lore also tells us that this release will signal the beginning of a new cycle of energy, and the slain gods will rise again. The tale will continue. The world serpent will grow and encircle the world, bringing wholeness out of nothing.
